I ENJOYED STAN MITCHELL'S BIO VERY MUCH. IT BROUGHT BACK SOME GREAT MEMORIES OF OUR EARLY DAYS AT THE BIG EYE. MORE AS WE All AREW GROWING OLDER.

SORRY I DIDN'T HAVE STAN AT CBS WASHINGTON WHEN WE BUILT IT FROM SCRATCH, AT THE ARMY TIMES BUILDING - EVERYBODY IN NEW YORK WAS BUSY WITH THE MOVE AND UPDDATE AT THE BROADCAST CENTER IN NEW YORK, WHICH WAS A BLESSING--WE BUILT IT FROM A THREE FLOOR EMPTY LOFT AND STAFFED WITH ALL NEW TECHNICIANS, MANY FROM WTOP TV.  MY KEY AIDE WAS JOE TIER. THE DC PROJECT OPENED ON TIME AND AS BUDGETED.
WHEN I WAS VP OF OPERATIONS OF THE FIRST ILL-FATED CBS CABLE CHANNEL, WHICH WAS NEW, I HAD DON MC GRAW AND MARTY MURPHY WITH ME --TIER MC GRAW AND MURPHY WHAT A GREAT TRIO- STAN, I KNEW TALENT WHEN I SAW IT! THE CABLE CHANNEL WAS BUILT WITH ALL THE REQUIRED FACILITIES, SATELLITE UPLINK, CONTROL ROOM AT BC WTH TAPE MACHINES ETC, TECHNICALLY PERFECT.
WE OPERATED ABOUT A YEAR WITH A FORMAT AS DICTATED BY MR. PALEY, WHICH WAS MUSIC, DANCE AND OPERA, VERY MUCH LIKE PBS.
THIS WAS BEFORE THE INFLUX OF ALL THE CABLE CHANNELS. IF WE HAD GONE TO OUR STRENGTH, WHICH WAS NEWS AND SPORTS, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL RIGHT FROM THE START. WE HAD ACCESS TO LONG TERM AGREEMENTS ON SPORTS EVENTS AND AND IN NEWS WE HAD BUREAUS AND STRINGERS ALL OVER THE WORLD, ALL SET UP, WHERE ESPN AND CNN HAD TO START FROM SCRATCH.
WELL ITS ALL HISTORY NOW.  I THINK MR. PALEY COULD HAVE BEEN INFLUENCED BY HIS CIRCLE OF HIGH LEVEL SOCIETY FRIENDS, THE WHITNEYS, ETC. I HAVE A COPY OF A LETTER FROM MR. PALEY AFTER AN OPENNG OF THE CHANNEL. HE THOUGHT THE FORMAT WAS GREAT AND JUST WHAT WAS NEEDED. GREAT MINDS DO MAKE MISTAKES.
THIS CAN BE MY BIOGRAPHY, BUT REMEMBER, MY BEST DAYS AS A TECHNICIAN WERE AUDIO ON BOB DAILEYS CREW,TD, UNIT MANAGER, DIRECTOR OPERATIONS AT CBS NEWS AND SPORTS, CBS WASHINGTON --BUT THE BEST FRIENDS I HAVE, AND HAVE HAD, ARE FROM MY EARLIEST TECHNICIAN DAYS.
